The lot falls away from the road, so the house arrives as a single storey and stands two full storeys on the water side, where the ground has gone out from under it. The view is due north — across Satellite Channel to Mt Tuam, east to Portland Island and the ferry terminal — which means the glass wall takes the whole panorama without the solar gain it would carry facing any other direction. The main volume runs that height up into clerestory glass above the living space.
