The Sweep
The site is a shelf of granite above a Blenkinsop Valley hayfield — hard ground to build on, and a view worth building for. The house sits on the rock rather than cutting into it, stepping down to a pool terrace on the meadow side. Every roof is struck as a shallow arc, so the eaves lift toward the valley and drop toward the hill behind. Stone piers carry the upper floor over the terrace; walnut, oak and honed grey stone run through inside.
